Spray Dryers For Food/Pharma/Natural Products
Spray dryers produce powdered or
tular product in one step by drying atomized liquid feed ( Solution, slurry-
suspension or emulsion). The Feed liquid is introduced in Heated air or gas
in Co-current or Counter-current manner. Co-current dryers are more popular
with Food and heat sensitive applications due to gentle Heat treatment to
the product Atomization is the heart of a spray drying system or industrial
spray drying systems. Most popular methods of atomization are Pressure
Nozzle Atomization and Rotary wheel Atomization. Pressure nozzle produces
granular product with a narrow controlled span of size distribution. However
turndown ratios of the capacity are possible only to the extent of 80%.
Where as wide turn down ratios of the order of 40% are possible with rotary
atomizer, but the product is of very wide span of size distribution. S. S.
Techno supplies custom built spray dryers of both the types depending on the
application and requirement for Capacities ranging from 5 Kg/hr -2500 Kg/hr
Evaporation Capacity. S. S. Techno plants are CIP compatible and are
designed for Hygienic application.

Depending on the type of Atomizer,
size and the shape of the drying chamber is selected. In general, the
Pressure Nozzle atomizer goes with cylindrical chamberwith L/D ration
between 3 to 5, with a conical Bustle. The Drying chamber for Rotary wheel
atomizer has a straight cylinder of L/D ratio of 0.5 to 1 with a conical
bottom. The design of the air distributor for air contact with the atomized
spray is also different in both the cases, designed specifically for the
application. The out going exhaust air is scrubbed off the product particles
in a Cyclone or Set of Cyclone separators. Bag filter/ Wet Scrubber are also
be provided for specific applications.
